An adult diaper can solve many incontinence problems

Welcome to incontinence products for you. If you are experiencing urge incontinence or other urine retention issues associated with a weak bladder, irritable bladder or bladder weakness in general, the adult incontinence product you are seeking can be difficult to find. Here is some general information about incontinence that may be of some help to you.

Using Incontinence Pads in Everyday Life

Men, women and children can all be in the position where they have to worry about urine leakage. People find that children can be excused but as adults they feel embarrassed by it. As a young adult, pregnant woman or elderly adult, you don’t have to worry about this problem as much as you might think. Incontinence pads are discreet products designed specifically for this problem.

Women may experience urine leakage after or during pregnancy. This is fairly common and most times can be resolved after childbirth with pelvic exercises. Sometimes though, other factors are the cause and long term protection is needed.

Men can experience bladder weakness as well. The most familiar cause is prostate surgery. After this type of surgery bladder weakness can occur, causing urine leakage. This can sometimes be resolved with time and medical care but sometimes a man needs protection long term.

Incontinence Pads For More Than Protection

Products these days are designed not only for maximum protection but also for discreteness. The companies that manufacture these items are well aware of the personal nature of this relatively common problem and have developed products that you can use without having to limit your lifestyle.

Men and women can exercise, golf, attend parties and play with their children or grandchildren without worry. It takes time to get used to this idea but after a while, you’ll feel less aware of your leakage protection and in time you may even forget that you haven’t been to the bathroom every ten minutes.

The most common comparison to leakage protection is a woman’s sanitary pad. This comparison is close but not quite right. Sanitary pads are designed to catch a flow of blood. This type of flow is usually lighter and of course only for a short period of time. Pads used for urine leakage are smaller and thinner allowing them to be even more discreet than a sanitary pad. You should look for pads that are made specifically for men or women.

A man’s leakage protection with need the bulk of absorbency closer to the front since that’s where the urethra opens up. A woman’s urethra will be lower and more between her legs so pads designed for her will be more in the middle.

Odor protection will also be better with a pad specific for urine rather than blood. These fluids have a different chemical makeup and will need different types of odor control. There are different absorbency levels as well that sanitary pads can’t accommodate. Belted pads can handle heavy flows while stick on pads are fine for lighter leakage.

If you don’t want to stand in the store and compare products, you can find good information on different brands of incontinence pads online. You can make your decision in private and not worry about people wondering what you’re doing. Whether you need them short term or long term, protection is easy to get used to especially when you’re at a special event or sitting in that comfy sofa you don’t want to have to get up from several times an hour. Take control and get on enjoying your life.

  1. I couldn’t agree more with your take on buying incontinence products. The #’s of people who live with incontinence issues are staggering – and only going to raise more as the population ages. Research is showing that 75% of those living with incontinence are women!

It used to be thought that incontinence was mainly an issue for those who were older, seniors. We’re learning now, tho, that isn’t necessarily the case. People who’ve been in accidents and suffer from spinal cord injuries, women who’ve had babies, some birth defects – these are the types of people who are living with incontinence – not just seniors.

Amazing how the internet can make incontinence (the last taboo subject) something very easily talked about. What a great feature of the internet – talking about something that is so embarrassing – openly and without qualms because nobody can see who you are!

Thanks for your comments. Yes, the sheer numbers of the baby boomers moving into their mature years will cause incontinence and incontinence products to become a growth industry. I’m glad the Internet provides a place to discuss adult diapers and their uses.
